February Video Meetup

The January meetup went well. People showed up. We talked books and tech for a good hour and then some. The tech did not implode. Some European and Middle Eastern folks stayed up way, way too late to join in.

February I’m scheduling to be more convenient for the folks in Europe. 13 February 2021, 10AM EST, or 1500 UTC.

Zoom meeting code 862 3264 5437, passcode “gelato”.

Or, if you want the full glorious information Zoom provides, including dial-in numbers, read below.
See you then!

First draft of “TLS Mastery” done

After ten months of deciphering RFCs, ignoring riots and pandemics, hosing down my missus with bleach every time she returned from the hospital, and studying openssl s_client output, I finally have a complete draft of TLS Mastery. I’m now soliciting tech reviewers. If you can read this post you’re getting this post will get a […]

January’s Inaugural Sausage

Hi folks, The bad news is, last year I wrote only about 300K words. It’s a new low for me. I’m blaming US politics and the pandemic. My wife is a nurse practitioner, and while she’s not on the front lines she knows people everywhere. It’s not good. For me to say “Watching my wife […]

Hi folks, With any luck, this post (beyond the preview) should be visible only to folks who have Digital Reader benefits and above. Please let me know if something is sideways. Here’s the first entry in my “publish a story on the 13th of every month to clear out this bloody awful backlog of stuff” […]

(This post should be visible only to the Video Chat and above Patronizers.) Hi folks, My first video chat will be held 16 January 2021, at 7 PM EST (midnight UTC). My informal polling says that people would prefer weekend meetups, and that Saturday is the best day. 7PM my time is 4PM on the […]

Freebie for all Patronizers

I’m double-checking my access controls for the brand new private Patronizer setup. And the best way to do that is to give something away. Some of you might know that I write a column for the FreeBSD Journal. They basically let me do whatever I want, so long as it’s not explicitly scatological and doesn’t […]

Dec 2020 Video Chat

Yes, it’s a video chat test. Should be visible to folks at video level, but not lower levels. Must duplicate text to put facts below the fold. Yes, it’s a video chat test. Should be visible to folks at video level, but not lower levels. Must duplicate text to put facts below the fold.Yes, it’s […]

Meatspace addresses for ebooks… what the heck?

This site sells ebooks. You download them. I won’t physically mail them, let alone bring them to your house. Why the heck do I request your address and phone number in the checkout process?

  • Because the software I use (WooCommerce) asks for it, and I’m not maintaining local patches.
  • Because a small portion of my orders includes print sponsorships, and those folks do get mail from me.
  • If you won’t get meatspace mail from me, I don’t care what your address says. I only care that your payment goes through.

If you need an invoice for business or tax purposes, use your correct address. You can print invoices from your account.
